Mike McLain's MKT Northern Division 1981

I model the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, or commonly known as the Katy, in the year 1981. I model the Northern Division, which

encompass the states of Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The Katy was a bridge line so I have a yard called Glen Park that is in

Kansas City, Kansas. Glen Park takes in transfer jobs from the Kansas City staging yard. These transfer jobs could the following

railroads: ATSF, BN, SSW/SP, UP, CNW, KCS, MILW, and MP. I model the MKT main line from Kansas City to Muskogee, Oklahoma. There

will be run through trains from CNW, MILW, and UP railroads. The main classification yard is at Parsons, Kansas which is 34 feet long. There is a branch line that goes from Parsons, KS to Chanute, KS. At Chanute, a 44 ton switcher switches the Ash Grove Cement

plant. The Santa Fe worked the plant in the morning and the MKT worked Ash Grove in the afternoon which I model. Eastern rail traffic comes from St. Louis, MO staging yard to Parsons Yard.

The layout is featured in the 2014 issue of Great Model Railroads.
